Chapter 17: Josslyn

Josslyn didn’t see much of Kate for the next week. Her taking that one day off put her into full on workaholic mode.

She said she had a big case they were settling on this week and couldn’t meet up.

The distance was a good thing. Josslyn needed some space from Kate.

Not because she didn’t want to be around her. The complete opposite.

Josslyn was starting to like hanging out with the lawyer a little too much. Enough that she knew it would freak Kate out if she knew.

This whole hooking up with people and not catching feelings was a whole new level of hard for Josslyn. She had to give Kate props for being able to keep her heart out of her relationships.

That was probably why you weren’t supposed to hook up with just one person.

It was getting comfortable with Kate. They had amazing chemistry, and to Josslyn’s surprise they never seemed to run out of things to talk about with each other.

When Josslyn got home from work, Amy was getting ready to head out. “Hey, where are you headed?”

“Ted’s.”

Josslyn smiled. Amy had been spending a lot more time over at the guy’s house. She was just waiting for her to announce that she was moving in with him. “That seems to be going well.”

“Yeah, I really like him. He’s one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever been with. It’s nice to finally have a nice guy instead of a douchebag.”

Amy had dated a lot of douchebags. The number of douchebags between the two friends had to be well over forty. Josslyn was happy that Amy found a good guy. Even if he seemed kind of dull at times.

Dull could be good. Dull was safe. Dull didn’t usually cheat on you and stomp all over your heart, smashing it into a million little pieces.

“You deserve it, Amy.”

That was another thing she shared with Kate. Their love for Amy. It was why Josslyn felt so guilty. She hated keeping this a secret from Amy.

There was nothing to tell, though. They hooked up a few times. It wasn’t like Josslyn was dating her sister.

Amy smiled caringly and tilted her head. “You deserve it too. Any luck yet? You’ve been out a couple of times with Katie. I thought for sure she’d have you engaged to someone by now.”

Technically they hadn’t gone out more than once. They hung out at Kate’s apartment.

“It’s only been three weeks.”

“Don’t worry. You’ll find someone soon.”

“I’m actually not worried about finding someone at the moment.”

Amy looked confused. “What do you mean?”

“I have this theory.”

“Okay. I’m listening.”

“I’m trying to be more like Kate.”

Amy looked worried by that. “Oh, no. What does that mean?”

“Don’t worry. I don’t mean completely like her. I don’t think I’m even capable of being just like her. But she does have this way of getting people to gravitate towards her, and she does it without trying. Maybe I have to not try so hard, and that’s how I’ll finally find someone.”

“That might work for Kate, but that’s because she’s not trying to settle down with anyone.
